The article that i read is about Detroit and how sports is giving them a temporary break from reality. In the artice it discusses how the Detroit Lions are 4-0 right now and they are the biggest story of the NFL so far. The Tigers are a win away from advancing to the ALCS where if they won that they would be in the World Series. The two college teams in Detroit are 4-0 and 4-1 respectivly in college football and the Redwings season starts soon. All this sports success is giving the people of Detroit a temporary break from there lives. The truth is no matter how successful it's sports teams are Detroit is a collapsing city. The unemployment rate in Detroit is near 30% and rising. There are many empty houses that cannot be torn down in time and the auto buissness that once made Detroit one of the most powerfull cities in America is failing and millions are losing there jobs because of it. But all these problems and more are being temporarilly forgoten about by the sport success that has washed ober Detroit. One person that has been directly affected by the economy in Detroit is Jim McCusker. according to him the sports success is benifiting the city he said: "It definitely gets the conversation away from the economy and how people are struggling." This shows the mentality that the people of detroit have these days. Even though there city is in the gutter they are finding a break in sports.

  1. How did Detroit's economy get this bad
  2. How long will the sports success last
  3. What will happen if the sports teams get bad
  4. Are people rellying on the sports teams too much
  5. Why doesn't Detroit tear down more of the empty houses
