Halloween

It was the night before Halloween and I was so excited. All over my neighborhood my neighbors were putting up there decorations and getting there homemade haunted houses ready. My family was all ready. We had been ready for the past three weeks.  Halloween was my favorite holiday but this Halloween it was all going to change.

I barely got any sleep that night I was so excited. Then throughout the day I could barley pay attention. Unfortunately Halloween was on a Monday this year so all throughout the day I couldn't pay attention in any of my classes. Then finally the end of the day bell rang and I was out of school faster than Pre could run a mile. When I got home I was greeted by bags and bags of Halloween candy and other Halloween decorations. I tried doing my homework but I couldn't focus and ended up reading the same sentence from my textbook 20 times.

Then finally it was time. I got on my costume (I opted for the classic ghost,) and I was out the door. My friends and I met up at the corner and then proceeded to go to at least 35 houses until finally we came to a dimly lit house. We figured since it had its light on it was OK to go there so we slowly made our way to the front door.

As soon as we knocked on the door it slowly creaked open. My friends and I looked at each other, shrugged and walked in. The house smelled of mothballs and another smell that I couldn't put a finger on. As soon as we walked in the door, the door slammed shut and we were trapped. We tried opening it but we were trapped. Then we went to the window, but as soon as we got there it slammed shut and locked. Then suddenly a chilly feeling swept over the room we all looked up to see a shimmering person. It was clear that it was a man but his facial features were distorted and it was unclear what he looked like.  It was floating just barely off the ground and was so bright that it hurt to look at it. And then suddenly it was gone and the door swung open. We stood there petrified with fear then after about four seconds sprinted out of the house.

I immediately ran home and jumped into bed, so terrified I couldn't speak to my mom when she asked me if I was OK. I was so scared that it took forever but I finally went to bed and as I fell asleep I could see the distorted face staring straight at me.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I yelled as I woke up. I looked around. I was drenched in sweat and was shivering out of control. I slowly came to the realization that it was all just a nightmare. "Few" I exclaimed as I started to go back to sleep." That was a terrible dream." Then just as I was about to fall asleep a sudden chill came over my room...

TU Tuesday

http://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Phone-foulup-leaves-Cards-on-World-Series-brink-2236042.php

baseball lore was made
Lore: history

but instead deflected off the reliever's bare hand
Deflected: to bounce off

Puzzled Cardinals fans Tuesday
Puzzled: confused

"That's faulty design, and I helped design it, so it's my fault," he said.
Faulty: not working

"Maybe I slurred it, whatever it is. It comes down to who has the responsibility when there's those kinds of miscommunications."
Slurred: slow garbled speech

This article is about the problems with the bullpen phone in game five of the World Series. The words in the piece are used to show the confusion and mayhem that occurred during the game. When the writer said "baseball lore was made" he was describing how the event that took place will go down as a great mishap in World Series history and when the writer says " but instead deflected off the relievers bare hand" he was talking about how the ball bounced of the pitchers hand.

The writer goes on to says ”Puzzled Cardinals fans Tuesday", "That's faulty design, and I helped design it, so it's my fault, “and "Maybe I slurred it, whatever it is. It comes down to who has the responsibility when there's those kinds of miscommunications." it all goes into the piece. By using words such as slurred, faulty, and puzzled the author really gives meaning to the confusion and mayhem that occurred in game five.

Childrens Book

The book that I choose to blog about is Olivia. Whenever I see this book it brings me back to the past and leaves me feeling nostalgic. I remember my mom reading this to me so many times and I never got sick of it. Along with this book we also owned all the other Olivia books and read them all the time. Although this book started as a book for my sister we both loved it. As I said before I remember my mom reading it to me and also myself reading it alone. This book definitely left a lasting impression on my life and is up there with my favorite children's books ever. The most memorable and most favorite part of the book is the pages where Olivia keeps on moving her cat over, and over, and over. I can still remember the look on the cats face while Olivia mover her, and it still makes me crack up. Another memorable scene from Olivia is when Olivia goes to the museum and sees a painting them goes home and tries to recreate it on a wall in her house. Overall I am pretty sure Olivia is my favorite children's book ever but I am not sure. After looking at all the children's books that we could choose from, I remember almost all of them. And I remember my mom reading almost all of them too me. Overall I am a huge fan of all children's books but I am an especially big fan of Olivia.
