Steven Wine is a sports reporter for the Associated Press and has been since 1987. The story that I read was about the Miami Marlins, a team that Wine covers. Along with Marlins games Wine has covered many large sporting events such as "the U.S. Open and the Australian Open, as well as the World Series, Super Bowl, Daytona 500 and Masters." This shows how impressive of a sports writer Wine is and it is evident why he covers these events when you learn that "Wine is a two-time AP sports writer of the year." This is a very high accomplishment considering how many sports writers the AP has. Today I read Wine's article on Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen returning to the baseball club after being suspended for five games. Guillen was suspended after he made comments saying that he admired Cuba's dictator, Fidel Castro, for staying is power for so long. These comments angered many Cubans in Miami who make up a large part of the Marlins fan base. In the story Marlins broadcaster Cookie Rojas says: "I'll tell you something about Ozzie," Rojas says. "As long as I've known him, he never before felt sorry saying, 'please forgive me.' This is the first time really that he had to admit he was wrong and made a mistake." What Cookie said was true. Guillen is notorious for making controversial comments that get him into hot water but after those comments he has never really apologized. This time was different and his apology seemed very heart-felt and sincere. But even though Guillen was suspended for five games many Cubans wanted a harsher penalty, during his press conference "about 100 people protested on the ballpark plaza and demanded his dismissal." Guillen's comments were very hurtful to members of the Cuban community and it will be interesting to see if the community forgives Guillen down the road.

How did you meet your closest friend?

Ever since kindergarten my best friend has been Marc DuMoulin. Since we met in kindergarten you would think that the memory of how we met would be blurry to me but it is not at all. When I was in kindergarten my little sister, Claire, was in preschool. Every day after kindergarten was over my mom and I would walk over to the preschool to pick up my sister. Every time I was there another kid my age was there as well. I never really put much though into the boy because I had really only seen him once or twice before in school due to the fact that we were in different kindergarten classes. Then one day I was getting my backpack from my locker and I bumped into him as I was backing up from my locker. It took me a little but then I realized that he was the kid from preschool and we had a quick conversation about that before being shuffled back into our classes. That same day I saw him again at preschool and we talked a little more. Then for about a week we didn't talk anymore and I pretty much forgot about him. Now to understand this story you have to understand a fact. Just behind my backyard is a parking lot for a physical therapy building. So about one week later I was in my backyard playing when I heard a noise coming from the parking lot. I looked over and there he was. He was running around the parking lot with his two younger brothers and they were chasing after a cat. I was interested by the cat and immediately joined in and for about 10 minutes we chased the cat around before it finally escaped for good. By this time my mom and come over and was talking to Marc's mom and they soon made a connection. Both these connections lasted a long time and to this day Marc and I are still best friends and Marc's mom, Janelle is one of my mom's best friends. Till this day Marc has proven to be a great friend and I am very happy to call him my best friend.

S= Subway

My restaurant is Subway which is located all over America but more specifically on Main Street in Altamont. Subway is just you average sub shop. When you walk in the first thing that you notice is the walls, they are covered in wallpaper that is also a map of New York City. This is a cool novelty and it gives you something to look at while you eat. One thing that strikes you when you enter though is that it is very cramped. With the sub making station and the seats in the shop is doesn't leave much room for you to stand and when it is busy it can become very congested. When you are ordering you food you go through a step by step process. You first start with the bread then the meat then finally the veggies for your sub. This is a very convenient process and it doesn't take long at all to receive your made sub. Unfortunately though subs are about all Subway has to offer. They do have breakfast foods and some salads but these are limited and their main money maker is their subs. throughout the sub making process the service is decent. The way that the subs are made requires very little service because you are just telling the people what to put on the sub, but they do a very good job with that. All in all the service is very good for not having that many opportunities for service. Then comes paying for your food. This to me is what makes Subway a good restaurant. You can get a foot long sub from anywhere from $5-$11. This is a fantastic price for the quality of the food. With all this in mind I would completely recommend Subway to anyone. The atmosphere is very cozy and makes you feel very comfortable. This coupled with the fact that you can get delicious food for an amazing price makes Subway a must try.

The Book that Changed My Life

One of my favorite books is The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. When I first picked up this book I was in fifth grade and I barely got through the first chapter. I thought that it was the stupidest book ever. Then the next year in sixth grade I decided to try the book again. This time I made it past the first chapter and finished the book. From the minute that I stated the book that second time till the finish I loved every page of it. Throughout my life I have always had a guilty pleasure for things that I can geek out to, especially fantasy with dragons and elves. The Hobbit also portrait how my life was at that time. At that point of my life I was in a very adventurous phase. Every day my best friend, Marc and I would go exploring and everyday it would be something new. I feel that this helped me connect to The Hobbit. I felt a connection to Bilbo Baggins as he went throughout his adventure. At the time I didn't fully appreciate the book to the fullest but over time I have come to appreciate it greatly. I find it amazing how Tolkien was able to, even in the dull parts, make the book exciting. I am pretty sure I have never been so entertained reading about people walking though mountains. But somehow Tolkien made that fascinating. Also the way that Tolkien made you relate to every charterer was amazing. Even with small, irrelevant characters Tolkien took his time and introduced each character and made you feel some sort of connection. Throughout The Hobbit I was fully entertained and made a connection with almost every page making The Hobbit up there in my favorite book list.

Bucket List

1) Run a marathon- This is a huge goal for me. I have been a runner for a couple of years sow and I think that it is safe to say that I am pretty good at it. Running a marathon would be the ultimate way of proving to myself that I am a good runner and show myself I can do whatever I set my mind to.

2) Visit Greece- I consider myself somewhat of a history buff and Greece very much interests me. I think that it would be very cool to see that old side of Greece. I mean it’s practically a portal to the past and who doesn’t think that's cool?

3) Go to UVM- UVM has been my college of choice for a few years now. Not only because it has a nice history program and that is what I think that I will major in but also because of the location. Vermont is a perfect place where I could both run and ski and always be outside.

4) Get Married- I think that this is a goal for most people and I am no exception. It would be very nice to settle down somewhere with someone that I love and share our lives together.

5) Climb all the Adirondack Mountains- It would be awesome to become a 46er. It would be a huge accomplishment. This coupled with the fact that I like climbing mountains makes this a big goal.

6) Graduate high school with a GPA over 95- It would be awesome if I could sit on the stage during graduation. This has been a goal of mine since 9th grade. Unfortunately last year I didn't have a great GPA but this year I have been working hard to reach that 95 GPA and I am almost there.

7) Visit all the states in America- I think that it would be very cool to be able to say that you had been in all the states. Unfortunately I am not that far along on this goal but I hope to do a lot of traveling after high school.

8) See the ball drop at Times Square- Every New Year’s I watch the ball drop and I think that it would be very cool to see it in person. It would be a whole different view on something I have seen many times.

9) Run at states for cross country in my senior year- Being able to run at states would be an amazing experience and I could achieve this. By my senior year our varsity cross country team will be very good and I believe that we will have a strong chance of going to states as a team.

10) Go skydiving- The idea really frightens me but I think that it would be extremely fun. Also it is
relatively safe and I feel that it could be a life changing experience that would be very cool.
